I hate when people throw around the term “hormone imbalance” on social media. Like.. what does that actually even mean? It usually tends to come with a sales pitch on some powder or supplement.

As a woman, I feel like many of us are familiar with the feeling those TikToks are trying to appeal to: a bloated lower stomach, random cheek acne, and a headache in my upper neck and temples. Whenever that starts to creep up on me, a veg-heavy brothy soup with lots of fiber and a hefty dose of protein seems to clear that up for me.

Cabbage is a magical hormone healer for me at least. Whenever I eat it my gut and brain seem to realign within 24 hours. This recipe is simple, actually quite affordable, and delicious. The ginger and chili crisp are just spicy enough to make your nose run a tiny bit. I love to make this with homemade chicken stock, but store-bought is fine!

This recipe is one-pot and pretty simple. I use a pinch-meatball technique where I just pinch the meat and drop it into the pot. It makes for a small rough meatball with limited effort that grips onto broth nicely.

Swaps:

You can absolutely swap turkey for ground chicken 1:1. To make this vegetarian, you can also dice up 1/2lb of pressed tofu, toss it in chili crisp, and add it with the carrots.

To keep this from being spicy, omit the jalapeño and chili crisp. I would add a sprinkle of sesame seeds, though.

Let’s get into the recipe!
